3588291 - After document splitting the amounts calculated for the general ledger view amount are much larger than expected

Symptom

  • Document splitting is carried out for a particular document;
  • In the general ledger view the amounts calculated are much larger than expected.

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Reproducing the Issue

  1. View the line item amount for the journal entry in entry view in app 'Manage journal entries'
  2. Then switch to view the same line item in general ledger view
  3. Notice after document splitting that the amount is much larger in general ledger view compared to entry view

Cause

This behavior or result is a normal consequence of document splitting in certain circumstances, depending on the sum of the baselines used in the calculation for document splitting.

Resolution

No resolution required. The larger amounts in the general ledger view are common after document splitting. A verification of the calculation may be required and can be done as follows:

Example (split characteristic=profit center):


Line that is to be split:
Account Profit Center  Amount       Debit/Credit
160.000 SPACE          +1.000,00   Debit


Base lines:
Account Profit Center Amount  Debit/Credit
400.000 A                +100,01  Debit
410.000 B                 -100,00  Credit
-> Total of the base lines = +0,01


Created split lines:
Account  Profit Center Amount              Debit/Credit
160.000  A                +10.001.000,00  Debit             <<<< because (+100,01 / +0,01) * +1.000 = +10.001.000,00)
160.000  B                -10.000.000,00   Credit            <<<< because (-100,00 / +0,01) *  +1.000 =  -10.000.000,00)

In the totals, the created split lines lead again to the original correct amount of +1000.

The smaller the total of the basis lines, the larger the amount of the split line item in general ledger view.
