3591159 - Issue with Sales BOM Text Items in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

• The inclusion of non-stock, non-pricing text components in the Bill of Materials (BOM) is required.
• The BOM item category "Text Item (T)" seems suitable, but these items do not appear in sales orders.
• This results in the error: "No item category for component (T184: )".

This issue occurs when the Sales BOM includes a component without a valid item category being determined during BOM explosion.

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

1. Create a Sales BOM with a text item or placeholder component.
2. Use item category group T or leave component material blank.
3. Attempt to create a sales order with the BOM header.
4. Error appears: “No item category for component (T184: )”

In SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud, Sales BOM components must reference valid material masters with appropriate item category group and configuration.

• Text items (Item Category “T”) without a material number are not supported for BOM explosion in sales orders.
• Public Cloud does not support adding lines without a material (unlike in On-Premise with free text components).

Two Workarounds available:

 Option 1: Use Dummy Material as Text Line

Create a non-stock, non-valuated dummy material to behave like a memo line.

1. In the Material Master:
   • Material Type = NLAG (Non-Stock Item)
   • Item Category Group = NLAG or similar non-valuated group
2. In the BOM:
   • Add the dummy material as a component.
   • Fill the “Component Description” field to reflect the purpose (e.g., notes).
3. Item Category Determination:
   • Ensure that the item category TAX is used, with:
     • Pricing = X (Not Relevant for Pricing)
     • Billing Relevance = A (Not Relevant for Billing)

This avoids any pricing (e.g., 0.01 JPY issues) or posting.

Option 2: Maintain Texts at Sales Order Level

If the text is purely informational and does not need to be in the BOM:

1. Use the Texts tab in the sales order header or item.
2. Configure Output Management to include these texts in the printed forms.
3. Avoids using materials or components entirely.

Important Notes

• Item category TAXN is not recommended, as it allows pricing (B), leading to residual charges (e.g., 0.01 JPY).
• Use TAX with Pricing = X to fully suppress pricing.
• Item category determination in Public Cloud is influenced by higher-level item categories (like TAP in LUMF BOMs) and may ignore custom entries that don’t match SAP-delivered logic.
