• Moving candidate to hire status, then the hire on date was generated
• The external to internal candidate conversion job is running, there is one error "The employee profile for *** linked to the conversion already exists and is inactive."
• Check the applicant history and confirmed that the hire on date is earlier than the external to internal profile conversion job running date, but the error message indicates that the candidate is inactive.

There is a difference between the hire date and hire on date.

• Candidate will become active only after the hire date rather than the hired on date. 
• Hired on date only means the candidate is moved into hire status in applicant pipeline. 
• Candidate will become active after the date when submitting "Add New Employee"
• Candidate perhaps will not become as active after moving into hire status in applicant pipeline.

Expand the date range to more than 2 weeks in your manage recruiting settings under 'Consider candidates marked as hired in the last [ ] weeks only.
