3591573 - Daylight Saving Time Impact on Time Tracking in SAP SuccessFactors

Symptom

  • An issue is observed with the timestamp of employee time entries in SAP SuccessFactors Time Tracking, specifically related to the transition to daylight saving time.
  • An employee time entry created before the daylight saving time change appears with an incorrect timestamp after the daylight saving time change.
  • The timestamp of the time entry is adjusted according to the new timezone, leading to confusion and potential errors in time tracking.

Environment

SAP SuccessFactors Time Tracking > Time Off

Reproducing the Issue

  1. An employee creates a time entry before the daylight saving time change.
  2. After the daylight saving time change, the timestamp of the time entry is reviewed.
  3. The timestamp is observed to have been adjusted according to the new timezone.

Cause

The system stores the timestamp as UTC and then displays this according to the user's timezone. This means that regardless of whether the employee's time was changed after the switch to daylight saving time or before, the date will always be adjusted to the browser time zone, which has changed.

Resolution

The system is working as designed. The timestamp of time entries is stored as UTC and displayed according to the user's timezone. This behavior is expected and cannot be changed. It is recommended to inform users about this behavior to avoid confusion.
