3595739 - Infected with 11 in ptn__get_pdes may occur on a partitioned table having undergoing ALTER TABLE .. DROP PARTITION - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • ASE errorlog reports "Current process infected with signal 11 (SIGSEGV)" at address ptn__get_pdes.
  • It can occurs when a client is inserting a row into a partitioned table and another client is running "alter table drop partition" command on the same table at the same time.
  • The infected user task held the Pdes Chain Spinlock, so ASE automatically shuts down. Errorlog entries include:

                  Address 0x0x0000000001f133fd (ptn__get_pdes+0x5ad)
                  Current process (0xXXXXXXXX) infected with signal 11 (SIGSEGV)
                  ../..
                  Spinlock Pdes Chain Spinlocks at address 0x0000000145808e80 owned by <kpid number>

  • The error may be accompanied by a stacktrace referencing the functions:

                  ptn__get_pdes
                  ptn_get_pdes
                  ptn_pdes_set
                  open_partition
                  open__common_sdes_setup
                  sdes_hookup
