Symptom
- When attempting to upload the SAP Sales Order template from SharePoint, a required field error is encountered, preventing the billing process.
- The same file, however, is successfully uploaded when using Google format.
- The error message displayed is vague and does not provide a clear cause for the issue: "At least one required field is missing in your file. Your file must contain valid field names, which you can find in the template."
Environment
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Reproducing the Issue
- Navigate to Import Sales Order
- Attempt to upload the file
- Observe the error message displayed
Cause
The issue occurs when a decimal-based custom (e.g., ITEM.YY1_ABC_SDI) or standard field is formatted as text instead of numeric. This is often seen with decimal fields created via In-App Extensibility or downloaded via external tools (e.g., SharePoint).
Resolution
To correct this and proceed with the upload:
- Open the Excel file.
- Navigate to column: ITEM.YY1_ABC_SDI.
- For each cell with a decimal value:
- Either retype the value manually, or
- Double-click the cell to re-activate the value, prompting Excel to recognize it as a number.
- A green triangle may appear in the top-left corner of the cell — this confirms Excel has re-interpreted the content correctly.
- Save the file and attempt the upload again.
After retyping or reformatting, the file should upload successfully without triggering the required field error.
