Cause
This is not a configuration or permissions issue; rather, it is expected behavior according to the system design.
It appears that the customer may have updated one of the application templates by removing the "Last Modified" field in both the preview and production instances. However, following the preview release, a database synchronization occurred without the necessity of manually executing the "Synchronize Extended Field Data" from provisioning.
Resolution
Specifically, the “Last Modified Date” field will only be visible in the metadata dictionary (whether accessed via API or Ad hoc) if it has been included in at least one of the application templates defined within the system.
Furthermore, any additions, removals, or updates to template fields necessitate the completion of below action to ensure that these changes are accurately reflected in the Ad hoc report dictionary.
Navigation:
Provisioning > Configure Reportable Custom Fields > Synchronize Existing Data > Application > Click on “Synchronize Extended Field Data”
As a result, the "Last Modified" field continues to appear in their production instance, while it is absent in the preview instance. This discrepancy may be attributed to the lack of synchronization for the extended field data in the preview environment.
