3597909 - Profit Center Determination for the Journal Entries in the system

Symptom

You would like to further understand how the Profit Center determination occurs for the Journal Entries in the system.

Environment

SAP Business ByDesign

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the Customer Invoicing Work Center.
  2. Go to the Invoice Documents View.
  3. Filter for All Invoice Documents.
  4. Search for the Invoice ABC. (where ABC represents the Invoice ID)
  5. Open, Select View All.
  6. Navigate to the Document Flow tab.
  7. Select the Journal Entry of the Invoice ABC.

The Profit Center EDF is displayed. (where EDF represents the Profit Center ID)

Cause

The system determines the Profit Center from the Sales Unit of the preceding document of the Invoice. At first, the system will check if the Sales Unit is a Profit Center, in case the Sales Unit is not a Profit Center, the system will look to the next Org Unit above in the Org Structures View and check if the Org Unit is a Profit Center, this process will continue until a Org Unit defined as Profit Center is identified. 

Once the Org Unit with a Profit Center definition is located, the system will assign the Org Unit as the Profit Center for the Journal Entry of the Invoice ABC.

In order to check if the Sales Unit of the preceding document of the Invoice is a Profit Center, the below steps can be performed:

  1. Go to the Organizational Management Work Center.
  2. Go to the Org Structures View.
  3. In the date field, enter today's date.
  4. Select the Chart button.
  5. Select the Find button.
  6. In the search field, enter EDF.
  7. Select Locate.
  8. Mark the Org Unit EDF.
  9. Select Definitions tab.

The Definitions in regards Segment, Profit Center, Cost Center will be displayed.

Resolution

This is a standard system behavior.
