3598770 - Error "authentication failed" when validating a connection in Datasphere

Symptom

  • Below error messages are displayed when validating a SAP BW/4HANA Model Transfer connection in Datasphere:

"Model Import can’t be used because of errors in the connection.
Unable to connect remote source: Error occurred when connecting to Hana database. Error: [10]: authentication failed., Code: 5921, SQL State: HY000"

"Model Import can’t be used because of errors in the connection.
Unable to connect remote source: SAP DBTech JDBC: [414]: user is forced to change password: alter password required for user, Code: 5921, SQL State: HY000"

  • Bellow error message is displayed for Data Flows and Replication Flows when validating a S/4HANA connection:

"SAP DBTech JDBC: [414]: user is forced to change password: alter password required for user"

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Select a SAP BW/4HANA Model Transfer/ S4 HANA connection in the connection list.
  2. Click "Validate" button.

Cause

The user name and password input in Section "SAP HANA Credentials" is not valid for the HANA database of the BW/4HANA or S/4HANA system.

Resolution

  1. Select the connection in the connection list.
  2. Click "Edit" button.
  3. Input the user name and password of the the HANA database in Section "SAP HANA Credentials".

    To make sure the user name and password is valid, logon the same HANA database in HANA Studio with the same user name and password.
  4. Save the connection.
