3599279 - How to export the report metadata in Crystal Reports?

Symptom

  • Unable to find a way to export the report metadata.
  • When exporting a report from Crystal Reports, it exports the report data, and formatting, but not the metadata.
  • Cannot obtain metadata information for objects, like Chart type, database fields used on the chart, ... when exporting a report from Crystal Reports.
  • How to export the report metadata, that will provide information on each object used on the report, like a chart type used, fields used on the chart, summary type used on the chart, etc... 

Environment

  • SAP Crystal Reports 2016
  • SAP Crystal Reports 2020
  • SAP Crystal Reports 2025

Cause

  • There is no export format in Crystal Reports that exports the full report metadata.
  • All the export format focus on exporting the report data, and report formatting as close as possible to how it look in Crystal Reports.

Resolution

  • The only export format that focus on how the report is designed, it's the Report Definition format, but it provides limited information, and does not provide metadata information on object like Charts.
