3600353 - ASE Upgrade failed with ERROR Installation failed with rc=255 - SAP ASE for BS.

Symptom

  • You are following Note 2800483 to upgrade the ASE server. The upgrade failed with message below:
    Error: Command execution failed. : Installation failed with rc=255. Please check /sybase/<SID>/sapdbctrl-config/sybInst.******.out. (fault code: 127)
    Operation ID: ******************************

    ERROR: Installation failed with rc=255. Please check /sybase/<SID>/sapdbctrl-config/sybInst.******.out.
    ----- Log messages ----
    Info: saphostcontrol: Executing LiveDatabaseUpdate
    Error: sapdbctrl: Installation failed with rc=255. Please check /sybase/<SID>/sapdbctrl-config/sybInst.******.out.

  • In ASE_Suite.log:

          com.sybase.ia.common.InstallMergeModuleStatus

          Status: FATAL ERROR
          Additional Notes: FATAL ERROR -     class com.sybase.ia.common.InstallMergeModuleStatus FatalInstallException: Open Client: FAILED.  

          See log file /sybase/SID/log/open_client.log for detail.

  • In open_client.log

          Install File: /sybase/SID/./OCS-16_0/bin/isql

          Status: ERROR

          Additional Notes: ERROR - Flexeraak8: /sybase/SID/./OCS-16_0/bin/isql (error 26 - Text file busy)
