3603671 - Character Limit in Predefine Email Body has exceeded

Symptom

When adding a large amount of text into 'Predefine Email Body', the system throws the error "String or binary data would be truncated in table", indicating that the data being inserted is too long.

Environment

SAP SALES CLOUD CPQ

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to Setup
  2. Go to quotes
  3. Document Generation Template
  4. Choose Tab "General Settings" and modify field "Predefine Email Body"
  5. After adding further formula and with clicking "Save".

Cause

  • There is a limitation of 2000 characters.
  • Currently there is no validation in place for the limitation, which is why there is a fatal error.

Resolution

  • Character limit is set to 2000.
  • Development are working on the issue to add validation for that field. If a user tries to save a predefined email body with more than 2000 characters, they will receive a user-friendly error message.
  • This has a tentative fix version for 2508.
