3604872 - Error Code: 500 for custom MDF object due to corrupted UI

Symptom

  • After migration to latest profile, some custom MDF objects in the new People Profile display an error message: "Looks like something went wrong. Please try again. If the issue persists, contact your system administrator. Error Code: 500".
  • These custom MDF objects does not have any business rule and UI rule configured with them. 

Environment

SAP SuccessFactors HCM Suite

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Login to the instance.
  2. Enable the Latest People Profile on Company System and Logo Settings.
  3. Post migration, navigate to the People Profile.
  4. See that the portlets for some custom MDF objects are not displayed properly. 
  5. Observe the error message: "Looks like something went wrong. Please try again. If the issue persists, contact your system administrator. Error Code: 500".
  6. When hovered over the error, it says "Internal Error"

Cause

  • The issue is caused by a corrupted User Interface (UI) for the custom MDF objects.
  • Could be caused by UI rule that is not supported in latest people profile
    • If you have a UI rule like "Set xxx.(group-0).title to be equal to Layout" you will get the 500 error.
    • Such UI rule is not supported in the latest people profile

Resolution

There are two workarounds to fix the issue:

  • Re-create the UI 
    1. Go to Manage Configuration UI. 
    2. Re-create the UI configuration of the existing default UI of the affected custom object. 
    3. After re-creation, go to Configure Object Definition then select the affected object. 
    4. Click Take Action and change the Default Screen field to the new UI. 
    5. After saving the changes, go to the Employee Profile to check. 

  • Save the UI without making any change
    1. Go to Configure Object Definition. 
    2. Click Take Action
    3. Click Default Screen
    4. Without making any changes, save it. 
    5. Check on Employee Profile to see that the error no longer persists.
