Symptom
The definitions of the Layer ID and Creation Date fields in the FIFO Layers Report by Consumption Order, as presented in the Online Help, may cause confusion due to a lack of contextual detail. In particular, the values shown in the report do not reflect the actual system-assigned layer IDs or the true creation dates of FIFO layers. This KBA provides clarified definitions, along with examples, to help users better interpret the report output and understand the logic behind inventory transfers and revaluations.
Layer ID
- Online help definition: Displays the FIFO layer internal ID.
- Comprehensive definition: The Layer ID in the report indicates the consumption order of FIFO layers, as presented in the report output. This ID is used solely for reporting purposes and does not represent the actual system-assigned FIFO layer ID. The actual system ID is stored in the standard table OIVQ, specifically in the OIVQ.TreeID field.
Creation Date
- Online help definition: Displays the date on which the layer was created.
- Comprehensive definition: The Creation Date in the report corresponds to the creation date of the transaction that initiated the item movement. This may differ from the actual origin date of the FIFO layer, as it reflects the timing of the transactional event rather than the creation of the inventory layer itself.
Image/data in this KBA is from SAP internal systems, sample data, or demo systems. Any resemblance to real data is purely coincidental.
