3609248 - Defect details not transferred to quality notification

Symptom

After transferring a defect to a quality notification, not all the details in the defect are transferred, such as inspection lot number and production order number.

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Record a defect when performing result recording.
  2. Go to the Manage Defects app, select the defect, and click on the button to transfer the defect to a quality notification.
  3. Check in the quality notification, there is no inspection lot information in it.

Cause

It is the standard system behavior that the inspection lot number is not transferred to the quality notification together with the defect.
This can be explained from below 2 perspectives:

  1. According to the Integration of Defects in Quality Notifications help page:
"The defect data is transferred to a notification item. You can still display the defect for information purposes, but you can no longer edit it. In the defect, the information "Is Deleted: Yes" is shown because it can now only be displayed but no longer edited."
This actually means after the transfer, the original defect is no longer effective and we are dealing with a complete new defect within a quality notification, so we should not expect that all the fields in the original defect is transferred to the quality notification.
  2. Not all fields (especially references) that are assigned to a defect can also be retained when transferred to a quality notification item. Some of the fields are located on the header level of the quality notification due to its object model, for example the inspection lot number.
If several defects are transferred into one notification, a conflict would occur with different inspection lot numbers and a manual decision has to be made on which inspection lot number should be transferred into the notification header.

Resolution

To check the inspection lot number of the original defect in the quality notification, the following workarounds can be used:

  1. Check the long text of the quality notification item.
  2. Use the "Preceding Defect" button of the quality notification item.
  3. Create a custom field at the quality notification item level and maintain the inspection lot number in it.
