3611102 - A Prospect is created when using 'Associate Account and Contact' to Leads even after assigning an existing Account

Symptom

After creating a Lead for a non-existing Account and later assigning an existing Account to it, a new Prospect is getting created when using action 'Associate Account and Contact' functionality. 

Environment

SAP Cloud for Customer

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the Sales work center.
  2. Open the Leads view.
  3. Open the Lead ABC (where ABC stands for ID of a Lead eligible for associating an Account and Contact).
  4. Click in the Actions button.
  5. Select Associate Account and Contact.
  6. Fill in the needed fields in the Associate Account and Contact pop-up.
  7. Select existing Account in Use existing account field.
  8. Click on save and open.
  9. See the Lead is getting created with existing account.
  10. Go to Customers > Accounts.
  11. Search for the Company name entered (e.g. 'SAP Test Company').
  12. See this was created as a prospect, even though the Lead was associated with an existing account later.

Cause

When a Lead is created without selecting an existing Account, and a company name is entered on the Lead Qualification screen, followed by the use of the "Associate Account and Contact" action without selecting a valid existing account, the system assumes that the process still involves a potential (unconfirmed) organization. As a result, a Prospect is automatically created using the entered company name.

However, since no actual association is established, the Prospect is not linked to the Lead and is marked as "Blocked," as it is considered unvalidated and outside the standard qualification process. 

Resolution

This is the expected system behavior.

If the intention is to create a new Account and Contact, the "Convert to Account and Contact" action should be used instead to ensure correct creation and linkage.
