3611433 - Error message : 'Customer XX can not be mapped as it does not have sales area YY'

Symptom

When activating the Return supplier checkbox in the business partner master data, an error message appears: "Customer XX can not be mapped as it does not have sales area YY".

(Where XX denotes the customer number , Where YY denotes the Sales Area value) 

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the "Maintain Business Partner" app.
  2. Enter the business partner.
  3. Choose display role as supplier.
  4. Navigate to the Purchasing tab.
  5. Activate the field Returns supplier.
  6. The error occurs.

Cause

When setting the "Return Supplier" flag, the system checks whether the customer master has been extended to all sales areas belonging to plants that are connected with the purchasing organization. If the customer master has not been extended to the sales area, the error will be issued.

Resolution

  • Assign the relevant Sales Area to the Customer within the Sales and Distribution tab of the affected Business Partner.
  • This is necessary when a Returns to Vendor flag is set, a Customer in the form of Business Partner needs to be assigned which should have all the mandatory sales area maintained under Sales and Distribution tab.
  • If the customer BP for returns supplier has not been created yet, it is necessary to create a customer BP.

Steps for Maintaining Sales Area:

  1. Go to the 'Maintain Business Partner' app.
  2. Enter the business partner.
  3. Choose display role as customer.
  4. Navigate to the sales and distribution tab.
  5. Assign the sales area.
