3612887 - How to Control and Understand Planned Duration in Tasks

Symptom

You want to understand how Planned Duration behaves when updating Start Date or Due Date in Tasks.

Environment

  • SAP Sales Cloud Version 2
  • SAP Sales and Service Cloud Version 2

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Open the Navigation menu.
  2. Select Activity Manager view.
  3. Select Tasks.
  4. Open the desired Task.
  5. Under the General section, you will see the fields:
    • Start Date/Time
    • Due Date/Time
    • Planned Duration.

    Cause

Once you enable the Start Date & Time you need to set a Planned Duration by default.

    Resolution

    Once the Task is created:

    • If you change the Start Date, the Due Date will adjust to maintain the Planned Duration.
    • If you change the Due Date, the Planned Duration will be recalculated.
    • If you change the Planned Duration, the Due Date will adjust, keeping the Start Date.

This behavior is by design and ensures consistent time relationships between the fields.
