3614197 - Server crash after timeslice at ktMuxThreadMain - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • The ASE errorlog reports (many) timeslices
  • They may be in conjunction with (many) page fault messages:

This Adaptive Server process has had 259456 major and 2880834224 minor page faults since boot.

  • Which finally leads to a timeslice at ktMuxThreadMain:

timeslice -1002, current process infected at 0x1f6c6f6 (ktMuxThreadMain+0x1c6) on spid 1234
  • Followed by a stack overflow on the same spid at the one hitting the ktMuxThreadMain timeslice

Stack overflow detected: limit: 0x0x00007f4958e36bb0, guardpage: 0x0x00007f4958e3dbb0, sp: 0x0x00007f4528ff75e4
    *** Stack corrupted, server aborting.
    ueshutdown: exiting
  • There may be a variety of stack functions or no meaningful stack functions at all reported for the preceding timeslices
  • While the ASE is timeslicing, high CPU usage (up to 100%) may be seen
