3614336 - Mapped field from Recruiting to Onboarding value appears beneath the field box, rather than inside it - Onboarding

Symptom

A field mapped in the Recruit-to-Hire Data Mapping is successfully passed from Recruiting; however, during the Onboarding Data Review step, the field does not display the value correctly. Instead, the value appears beneath the field box, rather than inside it.

Environment

  • SAP SuccessFactors Onboarding
  • SAP SuccessFactors Recruiting

Cause

Cause 1: There is a business rule in place that is overwriting the value passed from Recruiting.

Cause 2: In Manage Business Configuration, the data type for this object is defined as a String, which indicates that it is a Foundation Standard object. However, in Recruit-to-Hire Data Mapping, field is mapped as a custom field.

Resolution

Solution 1: To identify the rule responsible for overwriting the field value, follow the steps below to run a Rule Trace:

  1. Navigate to Manage Data > Click Create New > Select Rule Trace.
  2. Set both the Start Date and End Date to the same day you will perform the test.
  3. In the User field, select the person who will be initiating the candidate in Onboarding.
  4. Leave the Rule field blank (do not specify any rule) to capture a full trace.
  5. Proceed with creating a new candidate and initiating them into Onboarding, start Personal Data Collection step.
  6. Download the Rule Trace results after the action is completed.

Important Note:
As this is related to system configuration, we recommend engaging your implementation partner. They will be able to analyze the trace results, identify the rule causing the issue, and adjust it accordingly to ensure the field value is no longer overwritten.

Solution 2: Navigate to Manage Templates > the relevant Job Requisition, open "fields defined". When searching for the specific field (the one mapped in Recruit-to-Hire data mapping), field type is shown as Text. This confirms that the field is being sent from Recruiting as a Text field.

According to this setup, either the Label or the External Code must be passed from Recruiting, but not both. Since the field type is Text, the system expects a single value: either just the Label or just the External Code.

To confirm what is the Code or Label of desired fields, go to Manage Data > Search for the impacted Field and the relevant value.
