3614680 - Error: "Unable to connect to data source. Check your connection details then try again." when creating a Snowflake connection in SAC.

Symptom

The below error message occurs when creating a Snowflake connection using the Keypair authentication method in SAP Analytics Cloud:

"Unable to connect to data source. Check your connection details then try again."

Environment

  • SAP Analytics Cloud
  • Snowflake DB

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Login to SAP Analytics Cloud.
  2. Navigate to Connections in SAP Analytics Cloud.
  3. Click on the "+" icon to create a new connection.
  4. Choose SQL Databases.
  5. Select a pre-configured Location ID and choose "Snowflake" as the Connection Type.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Fill the necessary details.
  8. Click on Create.
  9. Observe the error.

Cause

  • User-password authentication is no longer supported by Snowflake, due to some security changes being implemented in November 2025: Snowflake Will Block Single-Factor Password Authentication
  • The issue arises because current versions of the Cloud Agent do not support encrypted private keys, which are required for key pair authentication with Snowflake.

Resolution

The issue will be resolved in the next release of the Cloud Agent, which will include support for encrypted private keys, enabling key pair authentication.
