Symptom
When trying to Open a document generated on CPQ, which contains a Shape Object, Microsoft Word throws an Error: "Word experienced an error trying to open the file”.
Environment
SAP CPQ
Reproducing the Issue
- Create a Document Template which contains a Shape Object
- Generate Document
- Try to Open file
- Error is thrown.
Cause
System Limitation.
Resolution
- Root Cause: Shape Object present in the document is leading to error after document is generated in CPQ
- Workaround: Remove shape from the template
- This limitation is caused by the Aspose engine CPQ uses to generate documents
- Warning logs are registered in Event Log informing when shapes (other than images) are used in headers or footers, since these cause the final document to break and prevent it from opening
- Word offer ways to check the existence of Shape Objects in the document:
- Using Selection Pane: Home -> In Editing Group click on Select -> Choose Selection Pane
- Using Find and Replace Tool: Edit -> Find -> Choose Object from the dropdown list.
