3617644 - Issue With Requirement Date in Material Requirements Planning - SAP Business Bydesign

Symptom

  • Issue with Requirement Date.
  • Demand for a Material with Requested Date in the future. When executing Planning Run (single BOM) manually, the system creates Planning Proposal with Requirement date being a day before the Requested Date in the Sales Order.
  • Creation of a second Sales Order with an earlier Requested Date. Thereafter, executing Planning again and expecting the Requirement Date of the new Planning Proposal to consider the Requested Date of the second Sales Order, but the Requirement Date considered is the Requirement Date of the first Sales Order.

Environment

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Navigate to the Sales Orders work center.
  2. Go to the Sales Orders view.
  3. Create a Sales Order for a Product with Lot-Sizing Method: Lot-for-Lot.
  4. Maintain a Requested Date in the future e.g.: 30.12.20xx.
  5. Submit the Sales Order.
  6. Go to the Supply Planning work center and to the Customer Demand view.
  7. Find and select the Sales Order.
  8. Click Open Product Planning Details.
  9. Click Run Planning and select Single BOM Level.
  10. You can see the Purchase Proposal is created.
  11. Release the Proposal to Purchase Request.
  12. Now create another Sales Order with Requested Date earlier than the Requirement of the above Purchase Request and submit same.
  13. Proceed to execute Planning for this Demand as well.
  14. You can see that the new Purchase Proposal has the Requirement Date of the previous Purchase Proposal/Request.
  15. Expectation was that the new Proposal to have the earlier Requirement Date of the second Sales Order.

Cause

  • Material Requirement Planning (MRP) run typically focuses on future demand. If a demand of future date (xx.mm.yyyy) is already created and also request document was created, it means system is expecting that for this product the demand will be fulfilled by this future date.
  • When a backdate demand comes into the picture (dd.mm.yyyy), where already a futuristic demand is present, then system will not consider this unexpected demand as already a request of future date demand is present in system. This is an expected system behavior.

(xx.mm.yyyy and dd.mm.yyyy represent a date of the calendar whereby xx.mm.yyyy is later than dd.mm.yyyy).

Resolution

Whenever there is any future date proposal created and also released and a situation happens that a demand got created with backdate of the previous future date requested document, then the request document having open quantity need to be cancelled and again MRP run to be performed.
