Symptom
When using Maintain Project Expense and Revenue in Microsoft Excel functionality, an error is thrown while trying to update Planned Expenses and/or Planned Revenues with decimal amounts:
'Technical error occurred while processing'.
Environment
SAP Business ByDesign
Reproducing the Issue
- Go to the Cost and Revenue work center.
- Go to the Projects view.
- Click Export -> Maintain Project Expense and Revenue in Microsoft Excel.
- Open the downloaded file in Microsoft Excel.
- In Query Projects Excel sheet, query for the respective Project.
- In Project Expense and Revenue sheet, select the row of the respective task ID - Name -> mouse right-click -> Create Expense.
- Enter the respective Expense Group, Currency and respective Planned Expenses and/or Planned Revenues with a decimal amount separated by comma (for example: 1000,50).
- Click Update button.
- In pop-up window 'Progress', error is thrown: 'Technical error occurred while processing'.
Cause
The system does not accept decimal amounts separation using comma "," for Planned Expenses and Planned Revenues. A period (".") should be used to separate decimals.
This logic is valid for both the Project Expense and Revenue via Microsoft Excel and for entering Expenses or Revenues in SAP Business ByDesign system itself, in the Maintain Project screen -> Project Plan -> Gantt Chart -> 'Expenses' or 'Revenues' tab
In the Maintain Project screen, while trying to enter an Expense or Revenue amount with decimals separated by comma the system throws the error: 'Enter a valid number'.
Resolution
Separate decimals using period (".") and system will save values as expected.
