Symptom

The line breaks in Column & Line chart when there is no data for the dimension in Optimized Design Experience story in SAP Analytics Cloud

Environment

SAP Analytics Cloud 2025.08

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Prepare data in the model, for example:
    * This is pure sample data, which is without any customer or confidential data.

    Type_ACity07xxxxxxxxxxxx
    Type_ACity08xxxxxxxxxxxx
    Type_ACity09xxxxxxxxxxxx
    Type_ACity10xxxxxxxxxxxx
    Type_BCity06xxxxxxxxxxxx
    Type_BCity07xxxxxxxxxxxx
    Type_BCity09xxxxxxxxxxxx
    Type_BCity10xxxxxxxxxxxx
  2. Create a Classic Experience Design story based on the above model.
  3. Add a Column & Line chart, make City as dimension, Measure1 as Column Axis and Measure2 as Line Axis.
  4. Add Category as Color dimension.
  5. Observe that for City08, even though no data exists for Type_B, the line of Type_B does not break at City08.
  6. Create a new Optimized Experience Design story with a similar Column & Line chart using the same method.
  7. Observe that for City08, the line of Type_B breaks.

Cause

  • In Optimized Design Story, there is a new option Group Color Axis. 
  • By default, this option is not checked which will cause the above behavior.

Resolution

Edit the chart and check on Group Color Axis from the context menu -> More Options
