3618598 - ASE upgrade returns 'Failed to configure syb_update_db' due to sybmgmtdb 1105 error - SAP ASE for Business Suite

Symptom

  • Upgrade of an ASE for Business Suite fails with saphostctrl messages including:

    Execute the task UPDATE_ASE_BS_DEFAULTS from ase upgrade and it fails with below error:
    /usr/sap/hostctrl/exe/saphostctrl -function LiveDatabaseUpdate -dbname SID -dbtype syb -updateoption TASK=UPDATE_ASE_BS_DEFAULTS -updatemethod Execute
    Error: Command execution failed. : Failed to configure syb_update_db. (fault code: 127)

    ----- Log messages ----
    Info: saphostcontrol: Executing LiveDatabaseUpdate
    Error: sapdbctrl: Failed to configure syb_update_db.
    Error: saphostcontrol: LiveDatabaseUpdate failed (sapdbctrl exit code = 1)

    From dev_sapdbctrl
    DESCRIPTION: Server message: Number 1105, Severity 17, State 2, Line 1001,
    Server SID, Procedure sp_sjobdrop
    --- Message string: Can't allocate space for object 'sysprocedures' in database 'sybmgmtdb' because 'system' segment is full/has no free extents.
    If you ran out of space in syslogs, dump the transaction log. Otherwise, use ALTER DATABASE to increase the size of the segment.  LAST OS-ERROR: (0) : Success

  • The ASE error log also reports error 1105:
    Error: 1105, Severity: 17, State: 2
    Can't allocate space for object 'sysprocedures' in database 'sybmgmtdb' because 'system' segment is full/has no free extents.
    If you ran out of space in syslogs, dump the transaction log. Otherwise, use ALTER DATABASE to increase the size of the segment.
