Symptom
When creating a Replication Flow in SAP Datasphere, the expected CDS_EXTRACTION – CDS Views Enabled for Data Extraction container is missing or not displayed correctly.
Typical cases include:
- The CDS_EXTRACTION container is missing entirely.
- CDS Views appear under CDS – CDS Views, not under CDS_EXTRACTION – CDS Views Enabled for Data Extraction.
Environment
- SAP Datasphere
- ABAP-based source systems
Reproducing the Issue
- Try to Add the Source for a Replication Flow
- Cannot find container CDS_EXTRACTION.
Cause
Cause 1: The source system release is too low (e.g., SAP ECC or SAP S/4HANA On-Premise with release lower than 1909), which does not support CDS view extraction in Replication Flows.
Cause 2: The source system is SAP S/4HANA Foundation edition, which does not support CDS view extraction in Datasphere.
Cause 3: The source system is SAP S/4HANA On-Premise (1909 or higher), but required SAP Notes (code corrections) are missing.
Cause 4: The source system is not SAP S/4HANA On-Premise (1909 or higher).
Resolution
Resolution for Cause 1:
The CDS view extraction from the ECC system is not supported by the Datasphere Replication Flow.
To replicate a CDS view, the source system should be S/4 HANA 1909, or you can replicate tables from the SLT system (with the DMIS add-on) using ABAP/Datasphere integration.
Resolution for Cause 2:
- CDS view extraction is not supported in S/4HANA Foundation edition.
- Use a full SAP S/4HANA On-Premise (1909 or higher) system instead.
Resolution for Cause 3:
Use the Note Analyzer to verify completeness of the implementation. See KBA 3643099.
- 3643099 – How to check Note Analyzer in On-premise ABAP-based systems for Datasphere Data Flows and Replication Flows.
Make sure all SAP Notes have been implemented in source system.
Resolution for Cause 4:
As mentioned in SAP Note 2890171, only S/4HANA 1909 or higher supports using CDS Views as a data source in replication flow.
Other systems (like BW/4HANA with DMIS addon) do not support such scenario. Therefore, in these systems, the CDS View container should not be visible and this is the correct and expected behavior.
If you previously saw this container in an unsupported system but can no longer see it after applying the SAP Note or installing the DMIS add-on, this is because the container was shown by mistake. After applying the Note or installing DMIS, the system corrected this behavior. As a result, CDS view container no longer appears, which is the correct behavior for unsupported systems.
