3624007 - The SAC story cannot be displayed due to the large volume of data when using a live connection from Datasphere

Symptom

  • The report fails to load due to the large volume of data when using a live connection from Datasphere.
  • The error message is displayed:
"The processing in the backend was stopped because of a too high data volume involved in the intermediate calculations.
To reduce the data volume, check the following options:
    1. Reduce the number of dimensions on the axes.
    2. Reduce the number of exception aggregation dimensions.
    3. Reduce the number of measures/accounts requested.
    4. Add more restrictive filters for dimensions which are on an axis and/or for dimensions which may, directly or indirectly, be used as an exception aggregation dimension."

Environment

SAP Analytics Cloud 2025.8.13

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Log into SAC
  2. Open the story > note it is not loading
  3. When trying to add a new dimension, it throws the error above
  4. If the data is filtered, the story works.

    Cause

The analytic model being used is quite large and complex. It appears that no views persisted, which caused issues during execution. Specifically, when the model runs, datasphere attempts to handle all views but needs to create intermediate result tables that exceed its capacity.

    Resolution

It is recommended to persist some views to reduce the number of intermediate result tables. This should make the execution process more feasible. Please check the Datasphere Guide: Persisting and Monitoring Views | SAP Help Portal
