Symptom
I wish to restrict other users' access to the "System Roles" dictionary category when creating Swimlanes, but maintain the categories usability as an attribute.
Environment
Source: portal
Type: Productive System
System managed by: SAP Cloud Tenant
Sold product: BUSINESS PROCESS INTELLIGENCE
Cause
When creating Categories or Sub-Categories, the Category Type determines which BPMN elements can be modelled for the dictionary items inside. Further information can be found here.
Resolution
To achieve the desired result, follow these instructions:
- Open the Define notations/attributes menu from the Setup Menu in Process Manager Explorer
- Create a new sub-category or edit an existing sub-category you wish to restrict use of
- Set the Category Type as "Others" and fill out the rest of the form as normal
As the Category Type determines which BPMN elements can be modelled for the dictionary items within the category, by setting it to "Others", users will not be able to create Swimlanes with items in that sub-category.
Making it a sub-category of an existing category ensures that the dictionary items can still be used as attributes.
