3629217 - Task from Marketing Cloud which is associated with non existing account is not visible under Lead in C4C

Symptom

A task created from SAP Marketing Cloud to C4C for an account in "preparation" status gets a reserved account ID in the backend, but this ID is not visible in the UI until the lead is converted into a real account. Before lead conversion, the task is not visible under the lead but can be seen in the task work center view. Clicking on the account linked in the task redirects to the lead, but the task is not visible there.Once the lead is converted into an account, the task becomes visible under the account in C4C.

Environment

SAP Cloud for Customer

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to Activities Work Center.
  2. Go to Task Work center view.
  3. Open the task abc which was integrated from Marketing Cloud.
  4. Click on Account ,then the lead will be opened automatically.
  5. Go to the Activities tab ,there is no task abc, only some tasks created from lead manually.

Cause

When create a task manually from a lead in C4C, the system knows to link that task directly to the lead, so it shows up right away in the lead’s activity list.
However, when a task comes from SAP Marketing Cloud, it is usually created and linked to the account associated with the lead — not the lead itself. The problem is that, at this point, the lead hasn’t been converted yet, so the account is still in a hidden "in preparation" state and not visible in the UI. As a result, the task is linked to something the user can’t see yet, and that’s why it doesn’t show up in the lead screen.
So even though the task is technically related to the lead, the system sees it as connected to the account behind the scenes. This is why users can see tasks created manually on the lead, but not those triggered from Marketing Cloud.
After the lead is converted, the account becomes active and visible, and the task can be seen on the account, but still not on the lead — because the task was never actually linked to the lead object in the first place. C4C doesn’t automatically move or show past account-linked activities on the lead after conversion.
So, whether the lead is converted or not, these tasks never appear under the lead because from the system’s perspective, they were always linked to the (backend) account, not the lead.

Resolution

  1. Create tasks directly on the lead instead of the account (If it's possible in Marketing Cloud).
  2. Another option is to use custom development in C4C to link the task to the lead when the account is not active.
