Cause
The analysis of the browser network traces reveals the following critical observations during failure instances:
- HTTP Status Code 0: The browser records a status code of 0 for these failed requests. This indicates that the request did not receive a standard HTTP response header from the server. This typically occurs when the underlying TCP connection cannot be established or is terminated prematurely before the HTTP layer receives a response.
- Extended "Connection start (stalled)" Duration: The timing breakdown for the failed requests consistently shows a significantly long duration attributed to the "Connection start (stalled)" phase. For example, in one customer issue this duration was 1.3 minutes. This phase includes:
- DNS resolution of the host.
- Initiation of the TCP handshake on port.
- SSL/TLS negotiation.
- The prolonged stalling here means the browser is unable to successfully complete these fundamental network connection steps.
- Zero Duration for Subsequent Phases: The timings for "Request sent," "Waiting for server response," and "Content download" are all recorded as 0 µs. This confirms that the failure is occurring during the connection establishment phase itself, preventing the browser from sending the HTTP request body or progressing to wait for/receive a response.
These technical indicators strongly point to a network-level issue preventing the client from establishing a stable TCP/TLS connection to the SAP endpoint. The intermittent nature of the problem suggests transient conditions rather than a constant blockage.
Resolution
