Symptom
After creating a custom number range, using the configuration activity 'Define Number Ranges For Sales Documents' (ID: 102819), it's not possible to edit it because the entry is greyed out.
Environment
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Cause
This is the system standard behavior. Custom entries on the configuration activity 'Define Number Ranges For Sales Documents' (ID: 102819) can be changed, however they can be locked on specific scenarios to prevent inconsistencies.
Resolution
Except in very rare cases, changing an existing interval should be avoided. Revising an interval is a critical change that could cause considerable correction efforts.
The intervals cannot be changed when they fit in one of the scenarios bellow:
- It's a pre-delivered number range intervals.
- The lower limit of the interval has been used.
- To alter the upper limit of the interval will create an overlap with other intervals.
Note: it should be avoided to change the number range status except in rare cases.
- Changing the number range status to a number that is smaller than the current number range status is likely to prevent the system from creating new documents in the future (for example, duplicate record errors).
- Changing the number range status to a number that is larger than the current number range status can cause gaps in document numbering. This can lead to significant issues in the future if subsequent numbering is required.
