3629940 - Data is not filtered after setting a variable in the model in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC)

The following behavior occurs in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC):

• Variable does not filter data in the story.
• Data is not filtered after setting a variable in the model.

SAP Analytics Cloud 

1. Login to SAC
2. Open a model
3. Set a variable (e.g. year)
4. Save the model
5. Create a story based on the model
6. A pop-up window appears for applying variable
7. Create a table/chart
8. Notice the variable you set in the model does not filter the data.

This is behavior by design.

The purpose of variables is the usage in formulas and not for filtering. "Defining Variables" is a subsection of "Formulas and Calculations" in the Help Guide.

In the modeler, the variables you enter are placeholders that you define with a default value. In stories, you can then select the variable values so that the formula can be used to operate with different numbers or different sets of data.
