3631971 - SAP ASE Windows service fails to start with error 1067 when using served license

Symptom

  • After installing or upgrading to ASE version
    • 16.0 SP04 PL07 or
    • 16.1 SP00 PL00 (GA)
  • Having a served license setup

  • The ASE service (SYBSQL_ASEservername) cannot be started and returns error 1067:

    Windows could not start the SAP SQLServer_ASEservername service on Local Computer.
    Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly.

  • The ASE error log only shows 1 line after the failed startup:
    ... kernel SySAM: Using licenses from: C\\path\\SYSAM-2_0\\licenses\\license_file.lic".

  • ASE can be started from OS command prompt using servername.bat file
