3633237 - Movement Type 321 Not Displayed in Production Order Goods Movements

Symptom

When a Goods Receipt (GR) for a finished product from a Production Order is posted, and the material initially goes into Quality Inspection (QI) stock, a subsequent stock transfer from Quality Inspection to Unrestricted Use (using Movement Type 321) is performed.

However, the details of this 321 movement are not visible or updated in the "Documented Goods Movements" overview within the Production Order itself.

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition.

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Create and Release a Production Order: For a batch-managed, Quality Management (QM) relevant finished material.
  2. Post Goods Receipt (GR) for the Production Order: Confirm the production order (e.g., via CO11N or a Fiori confirmation app), which results in the finished product being received into Quality Inspection (QI) stock (Movement Type 101). This typically creates an Inbound Delivery in S/4HANA and triggers EWM processes if integrated.
  3. Perform Usage Decision (UD): Process the Inspection Lot created during the GR, and make a Usage Decision to release the stock from Quality Inspection to Unrestricted Use (this action triggers a Movement Type 321 posting).
  4. Consult Production Order: Navigate to the "Documented Goods Movements" overview section of the original Production Order.
  5. The Movement Type 321 posting is not displayed in the Production Order's "Documented Goods Movements" overview.

Cause

This behavior is standard SAP functionality and is expected. The reason the 321 movement type does not appear in the Production Order's "Documented Goods Movements" overview is due to the distinct nature of this movement type within SAP's logistics processes:

  • The Production Order "Documented Goods Movements" option is specifically designed to display material movements that are directly consumed by or produced from that particular production order. This includes:
    • Goods Issues of components (e.g., Movement Type 261, 262).
    • Goods Receipts of the finished product (e.g., Movement Type 101, 102).
    • Receipts of co-products or by-products (e.g., Movement Type 531, 532).
These movements represent the direct material flow of the production process.

  • A 321 movement is an internal stock-to-stock transfer within Inventory Management (IM). It changes the status of stock (from Quality Inspection to Unrestricted Use) and may involve a physical movement within the warehouse (especially in EWM). This movement occurs after the finished product has already been received from the production order (via the initial 101 movement). The 321 movement is a subsequent, internal logistics step for material that has already been received into inventory and is no longer directly tied to the production order's material consumption or output.

Therefore, the system correctly separates these types of movements. The initial 101 Goods Receipt is linked and visible in the production order, as it represents the output of the order. The subsequent 321 movement is an inventory management activity for already-received stock.

Resolution

The absence of the 321 movement in the production order "Documented Goods Movements" overview is the expected system behavior.

To view the details of the 321 movement and track the status change of finished goods batch, it's necessary to use Inventory Management reports and Fiori apps that focus on material documents and overall stock movements:

  • Fiori App: "Display Material Document List" (App ID: MB51):
    • This app allows searching for and view all individual material documents posted in the system. It's possible to filter by Movement Type (321), Material, Batch, Posting Date, and other criteria to find the specific transfer posting.

  • Fiori App: "Stock - Single Material" (App ID: F1076) or "Manage Stock" (App ID: F1062):
    • These apps provide a comprehensive overview of a material's stock situation across different stock types (Quality Inspection, Unrestricted Use, Blocked) and storage locations. It's possible to use these to see the current status and location of the batch after the 321 movement has been completed.

These tools provide the necessary visibility and audit trail for all stock movements, including internal transfers like the 321 movement.
