Symptom
When a service agent is hired as an employee within the same organization, the organizational structure continues to display the individual with the employee type set as "Service Agent", even after the hire date. The employee type does not update to reflect the new employment status.
Environment
SAP Business ByDesign
Reproducing the Issue
- Navigate to the Organizational Management work center.
- Select the Org Structure view.
- Set the date to the hire date of the employee.
- Select the relevant organizational unit.
- Go to the Employees tab.
- Observe that the employee is still listed with "Service Agent" as the value in the Employee Type field, despite being hired.
Cause
Currently, the individual is classified as a Service Agent in the system. However, starting from the hire date, the Employee Type will automatically update to Employee.
From a system perspective, as of today, the person is still treated as a Service Agent. Even though an "Effective From" date has been set for the future, the Business Partner data reflects the current (active) status, which remains Service Agent until the hire date is reached.
Resolution
Beginning on the hire date, the system will correctly reflect the updated status, showing the individual as an Employee. Signs of this transition can already be observed, such as the use of the Employee ID (instead of the Service Agent ID), indicating the system is prepared to reflect the change once it takes effect.
