3637116 - Unable to Overrule Retention Period – Error: "OVERRULE_RETENTION_SETTINGS Not Permitted for Status 'Not Relevant'"

Symptom

When attempting to overrule the retention period for an item with the document type Expense Arrangement, the following error occurs:
"Action OVERRULE_RETENTION_SETTINGS not permitted for status 'Not Relevant'."

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Navigate to the Information Lifecycle Management work center.
  2. Open the Lifecycle Items view.
  3. Search for the respective Item ID.
  4. Click “Overrule Retention Settings”.
  5. Update the dates and enter the reason, then click OK.
  6. The error is triggered at this point.

Cause

Expense Arrangement is classified as Person Related Master Data. As a result, no retention rule is assigned since it’s not required.

For this type of business object, the arrangement is automatically deleted when the related Business Partner is deleted. 

Resolution

To overrule the retention period, the related Business Partner must be deleted first.
