Symptom
Clarification on the view and edit permissions for Executive Review when more than one role is assigned.
Environment
- SAP SuccessFactors HCM Suite
- SAP SuccessFactors Compensation
Resolution
Role-Based Permissions Behavior:
If a user has multiple roles assigned for compensation, permissions from all roles are combined. For example:
- Role A: Target Population A -> View permission for Executive Review
- Role B: Target Population B -> Edit permission for Executive Review
When accessing Executive Review:
- Selecting "Employees I can view" will display employees from both Target A and B.
- Selecting "Employees I can edit" will display only employees from Target B (since only Role B grants edit access).
Using RBP Based on Route Steps in Executive Review:
Route step permissions follow RBP logic and respect the combined permissions of all roles. For example:
- Role A: Step 1 -> No access
- Role B: Step 1 -> Read-only access
In Executive Review:
- With "Employees I can view" selected -> No users will be visible.
- With "Employees I can edit" selected -> Only Target B will appear, but the user won’t be able to edit (since Role B grants read-only access at that step).
Note 1: Route step-based RBP overrides Field Based Permissions. In order to know more about FBP, please refer to KBA 2135479 - Using Field-based permissions (FBP) - Compensation.
Note 2: Both roles will be applied, however, if target population overlap then the role restricting access will override. For example:
- Role A: Target Population A -> No Access
- Role AB: Target Population A + B -> Read -only access
In Executive Review:
- Only population B will be visible, as A is in Role A and that role will override the AB's target population.
