Symptom

When approver approves the workflow, error pops up: Error occurred when transitioning the workflow.

Reproducing the Issue

  1. You have a business rule in Manage Business Configuration to create MDF record based on EC field change.

  2. You change the relevant field, which triggers a workflow and also triggers the rule mentioned above, thus creating MDF record. In this case, the effective date of the new MDF record is Aug 1, 2025

  3. When the last approver approves the workflow, error pops up: Error occurred when transitioning the workflow.

Cause

An MDF record already exists for this user with the same effective date as the newly created record.

When there is an existing record with same user id and effective date for the MDF object, the save action will fail with error.

Resolution

Withdraw or decline the workflow, remove the record for the object on the same effective date (Aug 1, 2025) in Manage Data. And resubmit the workflow.

The Engineering team has acknowledged this issue but does not have an immediate fix planned. Please refer to ECT-244859 for updates.
