3638903 - Optimized Design Experience (ODE) Story export to PDF, PPTX, CSV or XLSX will end with browser out of memory error in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC)

Symptom

  • While exporting an Optimized Design Experience (ODE) story with about 40-50 pages to PDF, PPTX, CSV or XLSX, the export crashes with an out of memory error in the browser.
  • The export was working fine with the old story (classic mode). It appeared after the conversion of the story to optimized.
  • "Aw, Snap! Something went wrong while displaying this webpage. Error code: Out Of Memory" error may display on the browser page

 

Environment

SAP Analytics Cloud

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Login to SAC.
  2. Open the story which has about 40–50 pages or more, or a story containing a large number of data rows.
  3. Export the story to PDF, PPTX, CSV or XLSX: File → Export → Pages = All
  4. The export will start, but after a while the browser will fail with the error: "This page is having a problem".
  5. At this point, the page remains on the “Out of memory” error screen and no data is displayed or exported.

 

Cause

SAC is a web application developed in JavaScript, which means resource management is handled by the browser rather than the application code.

Resolution

Specify a page range when exporting, to avoid excessive resource usage.
