3639552 - Error appears "An error occurred while generating new user id. Please contact your system administrator" when hiring an employee

Symptom

When trying to hire an employee via RCM/ONB/Add new employee page, you encounter an error which says  "An error occurred while generating new user id. Please contact your system administrator"

Reproducing the Issue

Prerequisite:

Rule is assigned in the Hire/Rehire configuration object to follow a sequence.

Steps:

  1. Navigate to Add New Employee page (OR) "Manage Pending Recruits/Hire" and proceed with hiring the candidate.
  2.  Fill in all required details and click "Save."
  3. Observe the error message displayed. 

Cause

  • The rule assigned in the Hire/Rehire configuration object failed to generate a unique Employee ID as all values from the sequence were already in use.
  • The system exhausted its maximum retry limit of 50 attempts, resulting in the displayed error. 

Resolution

  • Please perform an employee export to determine the highest sequence number currently in use.
  • Update the sequence value in the "Sequence" object to ensure it generates unique IDs.
