Symptom
In Manage Business Configuration there is Maximum Length set to 10 for a field, for example: First Name; However, there is no errors when initiating a candidate manually or from Recruiting with more than 10 characters as First Name.
Environment
SAP SuccessFactors Onboarding
Reproducing the Issue
- In Recruiting, enter a candidate's name exceeding the character limit.
- Proceed to Onboarding and start Review New Hire Data (RNHD) task.
- Observe that no validation error is triggered for the name exceeding the character limit.
- Complete the onboarding process.
Cause
Expected behavior, validation appears only when editing the field.
Resolution
Engineering confirmed that the system is working as per the design:
- During the data collection page (NHDR), ONB is honoring the EC business configurations and validation appears only when editing / making changes in the field. This is exactly how it works in EC as well.
- When manually onboarding a new hire via Admin Center > Add New Hire to Onboarding, the system does not honor Employee Central (EC) validations, so any limits set there do not apply to this page.
