3641837 - Error pops up when trying to insert matrix relationship to a position

Symptom

When trying to add a matrix manager to a position and click on save, the below error pops up:

Trying to change Matrix Relationship Type to: HR Manager for object: PositionMatrixRelationship. Matrix Relationship Type (externalCode) change is not allowed during Insert operation! Use Make Correction to perform update.

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Add a matrix manager to a position and click on save,
  2. The below error pops up: Trying to change Matrix Relationship Type to: HR Manager for object: PositionMatrixRelationship. Matrix Relationship Type (externalCode) change is not allowed during Insert operation! Use Make Correction to perform update. 

Cause

The error occurs because there is an onsave rule on position trying to set matrix manager which contradicts with the one being saved manually

Resolution

Remove the rule or modify the rule so that there are no conflicts.
