3643685 - 'Create Absence' Request Screen is Stuck when requesting time off

Symptom

  • The screen becomes stuck when attempting to request time off in SAP SuccessFactors Time Tracking.
  • The quick actions page does not stop loading, preventing absences from being recorded.
  • The same behaviour is observed with the time sheet functionality.
  • However it is possible to create absence via Manage Data Employee time

Environment

  • SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central
  • SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central - Time Management

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Submit an absence request through SAP SuccessFactors Time Tracking.
    • Go to admin Workbence > Create Absence
    • Go to Homepage > Create Time Off
  2. Observe that the request screen opens but continuously loops without progressing.

Cause

The Employee Time object definition is not correctly configured for one or more required standard fields. This can occur when:

The field visibility is set to Not Visible, or
A Conditional Field Visibility rule is configured for the field under Configure Object Definition > Employee Time > Field > Details.

The following standard fields are required for successful absence creation:

  • timeType
  • startDate
  • endDate
  • undeterminedEndDate
  • loaExpectedReturnDate
  • loaActualReturnDate
  • startTime
  • endTime

If any of these fields are hidden or configured with conditional visibility, the absence request may fail to load or function as expected.

Example

In one reported scenario, the Start Date (startDate) and End Date (endDate) fields in the Employee Time object were configured with the visibility Not Visible, which prevented successful absence creation.

Resolution

To ensure proper system behavior, SAP recommends keeping the following standard fields Editable in the Employee Time object:

  • timeType
  • startDate
  • endDate
  • approvalStatus
  • quantityInDays
  • quantityInHours
  • fractionQuantity
  • loaExpectedReturnDate
  • loaActualReturnDate
  • flexibleRequesting
  • deductionQuantity
  • startTime
  • endTime
  • undeterminedEndDate

Best Practices

  • Do not set the visibility of the above standard fields to Not Visible.
  • Do not configure Conditional Field Visibility for these standard fields by maintaining Condition or Condition Values under Configure Object Definition > Employee Time > Field > Details.
  • Standard Employee Time fields are required by the application during absence creation. Modifying their visibility can lead to unexpected behavior, including failure to load the absence request page or errors during absence creation.
