3644200 - Data Provisioning Agent fails to start after reconfiguring JRE (Java Runtime Environment) - SAP HANA Smart Data Integration

Symptom

  • Using DPAgent version 2.8.x.
  • After replacing the bundled JVM with SAPJVM 8.x, the agent fails to start and the Configuration Tool cannot be started either.
  • A similar error message is thrown in the console:
    java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: com/sap/hana/dp/agent/service/AgentServiceDaemon has been compiled by a more recent version of the Java Runtime (class file version 61.0), this version of the Java Runtime only recognizes class file versions up to 52.0
