3644534 - Requirement type not automatically determined on sales order creation

The necessary customizing has been maintained for requirement type determination on the configuration activity 'Determine Requirement Type by Item Category and MRP type' (ID: 105120) and the material master has also been configured properly. However, on sales order creation, the requirement type is not automatically determined as expected. 

Although the requirement type field is blank, on the value help, the correct requirement type is shown as available for selection.

This behavior happens because, on the configuration activity 'Determine Requirement Type by Item Category and MRP type' (ID: 105120), for the concerned entry, the field 'Src' has the value '0 - Material master strategy, then item category and MRP type'. This means that before using the item category and MRP type to determine the requirement type, the material master strategy will be used.

Check the strategy group maintained on the material master. Using strategy group 70 as an example:

• On configuration activity 'Define Planning Strategy Groups' (ID: 105661), it's possible to see the details for strategy group 70, that main strategy 70 is assigned (and in addition strategy 40).
• On configuration activity 'Display Planning Strategies' (ID: 150562), it's possible to see on entry 70 that no requirement type for customer requirement (last column) is assigned.

To choose the strategy group 70 wouldn't match with "create a sales order", so the requirement type is not determined on the sales order.

To have the requirement type determined automatically, there are two possible solutions:

1. On the configuration activity 'Determine Requirement Type by Item Category and MRP type' (ID: 105120), adjust the 'Src' field to '1'; or
2. Adjust the material master strategy to match the desired behavior.

Note: On the app 'Manage Product Master Data' (ID: F1602) on Plants > MRP Data > Strategy Group field, the value help provides a few questions to assist on the strategy group selection that would be the most suitable for the material.
