Symptom
- Manager assigns a item to a user with required date.
- Admin assigns the same item to the same user with a different required date.
- Which required date takes priority? When user views the assignment at LMS homepage, how will it display?
- How are due dates displayed on ILX when multiple assignment takes place for the same item.
Environment
SAP SuccessFactors Learning
Reproducing the Issue
Assign an item multiple times to the user with different assignment types and due dates.
Notice that item is only showing once on the New Learning homepage depending on the assignment type and due date.
Resolution
PM has confirmed the behaviour of item assignments on New Learning Homepage.
NEW Learning Home Page (ILX Card) Logic
When multiple assignments exist for the same item, the system follows this priority order:
-
Assignment Type Priority:
- Required assignments take precedence over Optional assignments.
- If no Required assignments exist, Optional assignments are displayed.
- Hence, if there are multiple assignments with Required and Optional assignment type, Item will always show under Required Learning section irrespective of due dates and assignment dates.
-
Due Date Logic (for the selected assignment type):
- The earliest due date within the prioritized assignment type (Required or Optional) is shown.
- If an assignment is overdue and another has a future due date, the earliest relevant due date (based on assignment type priority) is displayed.
The ILX card shows the earliest due date based on assignment type priority, not the earliest date in absolute terms.
Course Home/Item Details Page Logic
The Course Home or Item Details Page displays the due date based on the earliest due date across ALL assignments, regardless of assignment type.
- If one Required assignment is overdue (earliest date) and another (Required or Optional) has a future due date, the system shows the earliest actual due date (even if overdue).
The due date on the Item Details Page may differ from the ILX card if an Optional assignment has an earlier due date than the Required assignment.
Scenarios for Multiple Assignments
Scenario 1: All Assignments are "Required"
- The assignment with the earliest due date is displayed on the ILX card.
Scenario 2: All Assignments are "Optional"
- The assignment with the earliest due date is displayed on the ILX card. (Note: If no due date exists, the system may default to the assignment date)
Scenario 3: Mixed Assignment Types (Required + Optional)
- Required assignments take priority—the item appears only in the Required section of the ILX card.
- The due date shown is the earliest Required due date, even if an Optional assignment has an earlier due date.
- The Item Details Page will show the earliest overall due date (Required or Optional), which may differ from the ILX card.
Conclusion:
- ILX Card: Prioritizes Required assignments and shows the earliest due date within that type.
- Item Details Page: Shows the earliest due date across all assignments, regardless of type.
- This ensures users see the most critical assignments first while maintaining clarity on actual deadlines.
