Symptom

  • The system throws a generic error message: "Address &1 invalid for partner &2 or partner function &3 on date &4" when attempting to release service confirmation for billing in the "Release for Billing" app.
  • This prevents the Release for Billing process from completing.

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Open the "Release for Billing" app.
  2. Select the checkbox next to the Confirmation ID.
  3. Click on "Release for Billing."
  4. Observe the error message: "Error during release.", "Address &1 invalid for partner &2 or partner function &3 on date &4"

Cause

This error is raised during the partner address determination step in billing release logic.

Possible causes include:

  • The address is not defined or assigned to the Business Partner (BP) used in the partner function (e.g., SH – Ship-To Party).

  • The address exists in the BP master data but is not assigned the required usage type (e.g., Delivery Address).

  • The address is not valid for the given system date.

Resolution

Option 1 – Assign the Address as a Delivery Address

  1. Open the affected Business Partner in role: Business Partner (Gen.).
  2. Navigate to the Relationships tab.
  3. Add a new relationship with the following:
    • Relationship Category: BUR001 – Has a Delivery Address
    • Business Partner (BP): [same BP number]
    • Address Number: The address that was flagged in the error.
  4. Ensure that the validity dates cover the required date (e.g., service confirmation date or billing date).
  5. Save and retry the billing release.

This ensures the system recognizes the address for delivery partner function validation logic.

Option 2 – Reassign the Address to the Partner Function

  1. Navigate to the Sales Area Data of the Business Partner.
  2. Go to the Partner Functions tab.
  3. For the relevant partner function (e.g., SH - Ship-to Party), remove and reassign the BP number.
  4. Use the Address Proposal functionality to select the correct address number (from available addresses in the master data).
  5. Save and retry billing
