3648042 - Purchase Order notes disappear in SAP S/4hana cloud public edition

Symptom

  • Purchase order notes disappear when the supplier is changed in a saved draft purchase order.

  • This issue occurs even if the communication language of the supplier remains unchanged before and after the change.

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Save a purchase order as a draft in the Manage Purchase Order app.
  2. Change the supplier in the draft purchase order.
  3. Navigate to the memo tab to check the contents of the notes.
  4. Observe that the memo or notes disappear after the supplier change.

Cause

  • Notes in a purchase order are linked to the supplier's communication language. If the supplier is changed, the system refreshes all long texts, including memos, as part of its standard behavior.
  • This refresh logic does not differentiate between text types or retain notes, even if the communication language remains unchanged.

Resolution

  • Refreshing of long texts when the supplier is changed is standard system behavior in SAP S/4HANA.

  • Certain memo texts may be derived from supplier data or refer directly to the supplier, which causes them to be refreshed upon supplier change.

  • There is no system logic to retain specific text types during a supplier change.
