Symptom
During the onboarding process, candidates complete the electronic I-9 template. However, the attestation statement in the Section 1 does not exactly match the attestation statement that appears on the actual I-9 form they later sign.
- The attestation statement for Section 2 matches word-for-word with the official I-9 form.
- An external audit flagged this inconsistency as a compliance concern.
Environment
SAP SuccessFactors Onboarding
Cause
The attestation statement in the system differs from the actual form due to the conceptual design. The system uses a "consent" statement, which is distinct from the "attestation" statement in the actual form.
Resolution
The attestation is really different from the actual to the the SF for which the onboardees are signing in the I-9 Section 1 form.
The information provided during signing is identified as a "consent" rather than the same as "Attestation" in the actual form. It means of two different concept wherein consent is more of a permission or agreement for something to happen after being informed about it.
Whereas, attestation is a confirmation or verification formally declaring that something is true or accurate often used in legal and official documents to verify facts, statements, or authenticity.
Hence, the observed difference is true and expected as per conceptual design.
